The Lord of the Rings: release date and first image of the Amazon series

After a long wait, we finally know something more about The Lord of the Rings, a monumental series based on the work of JRR Tolkien by Amazon. In a press release, Amazon Studios announced that the series will debut on September 2, 2022 on Prime Video, in over 240 countries around the world, with episodes published weekly. On this occasion, the studio has also published the first official image of the series, which you can see below or at the beginning of the article.

This new epic drama brings Tolkien’s legendary Second Age story of Middle-earth to the screen for the first time. In a period of relative peace, thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s books The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they face the much feared resurgence of evil in the Land of Half.

Metro Exodus is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X … followed by a new installment, already in development

The protagonists of the series are Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin , Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman and Sara Zwangobani. The series is led by showrunners and executive producers JD Payne and Patrick McKay.

This is the statement by Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios:

The journey begins September 2, 2022 with the premiere of our original Lord of the Rings series on Prime Video. I can’t express how excited we are to take our global audience on a new and epic journey through Middle-earth! Our talented producers, cast, creatives and production teams have worked tirelessly in New Zealand to bring this new and majestic vision to life.

This is instead the comment of Payne and McKay:

As Bilbo says, “Now I think I’m ready for another journey.” Living and breathing Middle-earth in these many months has been the adventure of a lifetime. We can’t wait for fans to have the chance to do so too.
