The iPad is still the King of tablets, despite the lack of stock due to the shortage of chips
The iPad It is undoubtedly one of Apple’s star devices. The iPhone has many competitors and has to fight between a wide range of mobile phones, each time with better features, and very reasonable prices. Instead, in the tablet market, the iPad is King.
Those are the numbers that each year publishes Canalys with your market research. In 2021, Apple sold almost 20 million iPads. And that did not have enough stock due to the well-known chip shortage crisis….
Apple does not usually give data on the sales of its devices, but luckily there are companies like Canalys, which do their estimates (very adjusted to reality), and thus we can know how the market is going for each family of devices.
And the truth is that in its latest report, it shows that the iPad is still, one more year, best selling tablet in the US. It explains that sales in North America of computers and tablets grew by 1% in 2021 compared to the previous year. A total of 135 million units were sold. Great news considering the lack of product to sell due to the chip shortage crisis.
The iPad dominated the tablet market share with nearly 20 million of units sold. Quite an achievement if we take into account that the delivery times of the orders were delayed by nine weeks. In general, it represents a drop of 17% compared to 2020. Its market share went from 44.6% in the fourth quarter of 2020 to 40.2% in the fourth quarter of 2021.
As for the computer market, HP was the leading brand, with a 30% market share. But Apple stayed in the top five best-selling brands, quite a success for Macs.
