Sony relies on artificial intelligence to improve the challenges on PlayStation
Sony is focusing on artificial intelligence to improve the challenges on PlayStation, making the opponents more competitive and the comrades managed by the “computer” more skilled. This is just one piece of the puzzle of technical innovations and strategies that Sony is launching to enrich the ecosystem of its console.
Sony invests in PlayStation artificial intelligence
In 2019 Sony created a subsidiary to the company to do research on artificial intelligence. Recently, the company’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida explained that “Sony ATHE started collaborating with PlayStation to make the gaming experience even richer and more enjoyable. Using computer learning we are developing Game AI Agents that can be players’ opponents and partners ”.
Yoshida did not go into the details of the potential of this new technological tool. But the news underscores Sony’s commitment to using AI to the full in games. Even though the evolution of gaming is under the eyes of all long-time gamers, the “arcade challenges” against the “computer” are often too easy or too difficult. And the “escort” missions in RPGs are often the most hated because NPCs don’t know how to stay safe. Artificial intelligence could enrich and make gaming in its entirety more natural.
Also Microsoft is working on something similar: the fact that big tech companies are producers of two of the most used consoles could soon have its advantages. Applying knowledge learned for other areas to play could lead to a new qualitative leap.
The rest of the Sony strategy

- More original Sony titles and mobile franchises. Soon we will be able to play many of the best titles in video game history on our smartphone
- More movies and TV series based on Sony games. Soon we will see Tom Holland in the role of Nathan Drake, a TV series dedicated to The Last of Us and the titles could soon increase
- Investments in PlayStation Network, PlayStation Now and PS Plus. While Xbox has the benefit of a greater experience with cloud offerings, Sony is aiming to increase subscriber users from 160 million to one billion.
