Privacy Guarantor investigates the pirated C19 Verification App
The Privacy Guarantor, the highest authority in Italy for data protection, has warned users about the circulation of Unofficial C19 Verification App. Apparently, these would work exactly like the Ministry application, capturing user data and passing it on to third parties. A breach of security and privacy, which the authorities could not fail to notice.
App Verification C19: the Privacy Guarantor alerts users about unofficial apps
“Several producers and developers, also from other countries, have made available on the online stores Apps for verifying the Green pass that allow those who download them, by framing the QR Code, to read personal data and even doses or swabs made. In some cases, the Apps also require a registration for download and transfer the data to third parties “. Thus the Privacy Guarantor has alerted users to the circulation of pirated applications for the verification of the Green Pass.
Once downloaded, in fact, these would collect sensitive data from the certification scan – such as name, surname, date of birth and number of vaccine doses carried out -. And, in some cases, there illegally transmit to third parties. The invitation of the authority, therefore, is not to rely on other tools than the App Verification C19, the only one to be officially recognized by the Ministry of Health. On the other hand, it is the only application that can truly guarantee user privacy. Meanwhile, the Guarantor has decided to launch an investigation into the bogus apps. The intent, of course, is to understand what is happening and then protect people as much as possible.
In fact, issues about Green Pass and bogus apps are spreading considerably lately. Just a few days ago, as perhaps recalled, false certifications in the name of Adolf Hitler began to circulate. In short, the situation is not the best, and it seems that it is only going to get worse.
