Minecraft Dungeons could have looked like a cubed Zelda

Minecraft Dungeons, the new game in the Minecraft cube universe, will be released on May 26th, and it will be a dungeon crawler. In other words, a video game where you can explore magical castles and caves, populated by who knows what monsters. A bit like Diablo, even if we imagine it is less gloomy. And instead it could have been much more like games from the Zelda series.

In an interview with USGgamer, Måns Olsonwho curates the new video game for the developer house Mojang, shared the ideas on which they built Minecraft Dungeons. The game has been in development for a long time, so much so that at first they had thought of release it for the Nintendo 3DS. And it would have been a Zelda-like experience, not just in the fantasy setting, but in the gameplay.

“We wanted to bring a new Minecraft experience to players. To do something new, we thought we would take a big step to distance ourselves from the base game ”.

However, things changed during the later stages of Minecraft Dungeons crafting. AND Little is left of Zelda in the final product. While they originally thought about working on a single player campaign, Mojang realized that the multiplayer made the experience more fun.

“Now, if you are looking for references, the game is more similar to the gameplay of Diablo, Torchlight and Gauntlet. There are things that have been added, but then changed, and others that have remained only on paper ”.

Minecraft Dungeons will arrive for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch on May 26th. It was expected in April, but has been postponed due to the quarantine from COVID-19, for which Minecraft has prepared very special progress advertisements.
