iPhone 14 Pro could leave the notch

A few days after the start of the iPhone 13 pre-orders, the well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo looks ahead. In a research note seen by MacRumors, Kuo shared some of his main expectations on hardware for iPhone 14 Pro models (tentative name) next year. Among these we find a display with the hole for the front camera it’s a 48 megapixel wide angle lens for the rear camera system.

Will iPhone 14 Pro say goodbye to the notch in favor of a hole in the display?

The hole-punch design refers to a display with only a small circular cutout for the front camera, as seen on many recent Samsung smartphones (and more). This design would involve the removal of the famous notch, with sensors like Face ID likely moved below the display. Kuo said Apple is also working on an iPhone with Touch ID under the screen to be released in 2023.

As for the rear camera, the48 megapixel wide angle lens it would be an upgrade from the 12-megapixel wide-angle lens found on the iPhone 13 Pro models.

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 14 line in the second half of 2022, in line with the usual launch times. Kuo also reiterated that Apple plans to release a third generation iPhone SE with 5G support in the first half of 2022. It would be the continuation of the SE line, the one formed by the cheapest iPhones, after the second model released in 2020.

In line with research shared a few hours earlier by Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty, Kuo said that pre-orders for the iPhone 13 series were higher than those for the iPhone 12 seriesespecially for the high-end Pro models.
