Check here the article where we publish the review of the Apple Watch Series 5.
Unpack the Apple Watch and attach the strap
Open the box and take out all the components that come inside. The Apple Watch, the strap it usually includes, the spare, the charger and the basic documentation.
How to fit the sports band
If you bought an Apple Watch with a sports band, you will find that it comes with three pieces, not the expected two. This is because there are two different versions with the holes: one small / medium and one in medium / large size.
Depending on the size of your wrist, you will see that one will fit you better than the other. Try both and stick with the size that best fits your wrist without putting too much strap on.
You will see that it is very easy to exchange them. Press the button on the watch body to release the strap and slide it out. This makes it possible for you to exchange the straps to your liking depending on your activity, or even use third-party models.
Turn on your new Apple Watch
The side button of the Apple Watch, the one located next to the Digital Crown dial, is to give you access to the applications menu. Press it and you can slide through the apps you use most often. You can change them by clicking on ‘Dock’.
Your new Apple Watch should be half charged out of the box. Otherwise, we recommend that you load it before proceeding with the installation and configuration in order to avoid that you cannot complete the process.
How to charge your Apple Watch
Charging the Apple Watch works through induction wirelessly. You don’t need to physically connect a charging cable to the device, but the induction has a small range, so it should still be slightly in contact with the charging unit.
The charger is the small white circular pad; Plug it into the mains and place the Apple Watch on top of the charging unit. It will light up magnetically if you have placed it correctly.
You will see that the Apple Watch has started charging also by the beep emitted by the watch, as well as by the fact that the icon and message that says ‘charging’ appears, which disappears instantly.
Pair the Apple Watch with your iPhone
The rest of the configuration requires the use of the iPhone that you want to pair with your new Apple Watch. To do this, start the Watch application on your iPhone and activate Bluetooth if you have not already done so. The application will guide you step by step in the start-up.
First, it will ask you to align the Apple Watch screen with the iPhone camera as explained in the video. The Apple Watch detects the presence of the iPhone to pair and displays an abstract image that acts as a QR code.
Configuration options and preferences
The new Apple Watch will ask you if you want to wear it on your left or right wrist. Next, it will show you Apple’s terms and conditions, which you must accept.
In the next step, you will have to enter the password for the Apple ID used on your iPhone. The device will then ask you about a number of optional features and services to adjust your preferences. We indicate them below.
Do you want to use location services on your Apple Watch? This may slightly reduce the life of your battery, but it will allow applications to offer different alternatives based on your location.
Do you want to use Siri? You may still find it difficult to interact with Apple’s voice assistant, but without a doubt, many processes are streamlined when you have it as an option. Consider its use for certain actions.
Want to automatically send diagnostics to Apple when a problem arises? This is what bugs are all about so that Apple can find solutions to bugs that occur. You are not required to do so. The company puts it as an option.
Set a passcode for your Apple Watch. You can choose between a short 4-digit access code or a longer access code that you must enter on the iPhone each time you want to unlock the watch.
Keep in mind that if you activate the security mode by means of an access code, you will not have to enter it constantly, but only the first time you use it after putting it on. Generally, you will have to unlock your Apple Watch only once a day.
Users who have new iPhone X models will also be able to associate the unlocking with their iPhone, for which it will be enough with a single touch on the Touch ID or use the unlocking through Face ID.
You should know that if both the Apple Watch and the iPhone are locked and you proceed with the unlocking of the iPhone, the Apple Watch will also be unlocked automatically as long as you have it present on your wrist.
Install apps on Apple Watch
The last option is to install or not all those applications that you have on your iPhone (at least all those that have versions compatible with the Apple Watch). If you agree, wait a few minutes and you will see that everything is synchronized.
We have discovered that we have to open the ‘Watch’ application on the iPhone, scroll down until we reach the individual application that we want on the watch, click on it and select ‘Show on Apple Watch’.

How to install applications that are not on your iPhone
At this point you should know that if there is an application that you want to use on the Apple Watch, you must first have it installed on your iPhone. When browsing the App Store, check the descriptions to see if they have a version for the watch.
You can then access the ‘Watch’ app on your iPhone, scroll down to the app you just installed, and choose ‘Show on Apple Watch’. You can also decide here if it should appear among the most used.
You’re almost done. Thereafter, the iPhone will warn you that a new device is using your Apple ID. Press ‘OK’ and the application will inform you that the configuration process of the new device has concluded.
If you want to know how you can change the apps in the Dock of your Apple Watch, read this article where we explain how to do it step by step.
How to unpair it from iPhone
If you decide to unpair the iPhone in the future, open the ‘Watch’ app on your iPhone and making sure you are in the ‘My Watch’ tab on the left, tap the Apple Watch you want to unpair at the top. Then click on the lowercase ‘i’ of your watch.
The next screen will display a confirmation message to unpair the watch.
Use the ‘Activity’ app
Now you can get started, but there are some functions that your Apple Watch will not be able to perform until we work on the settings a little more. Let’s start with ‘Activity’.
‘Activity’ is a very popular pre-installed application: many Apple Watch owners use it more than any other app, since it is able to record the amount of exercise you do each day.
It is able to count your steps, how often you get up from the chair, as well as offering the possibility of setting goals to improve your health and general well-being.
If you want to use the Apple Watch as a fitness tracker, this is a great app to start with, but you’ll need to set some goals, as well as inform the app of your height, and other considerations.
Set up photos on Apple Watch
The Apple Watch can show your photos, but it is not a feature that many people consider. Also, the Series 4’s 44mm screen is small enough to enjoy viewing photos, and the interface does not lend itself to scrolling through photos.
But photos can make sense on the clock. There is something attractive about viewing some of them with a screen that shows the contents in a tremendously clear way.
If you want to set this up, open the ‘Watch’ app on your iPhone and scroll down to ‘Photos’. Tap on ‘Photos’ and you will see an option to ‘sync photos’. Tap on ‘Synced Album’ and select the album you want to sync with your Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch is not an ideal device for browsing large image libraries, so consider creating a small album with a selection according to this small screen.
Access our review of the Apple Watch Series 4 which is accompanied by a video of the watch with its main news.
Remember that these images will be synchronized with the clock and will be stored in its built-in memory so that they can be accessed even out of reach of the iPhone.
Open the ‘Photos’ application on the Apple Watch and you will see that it has started to sync. You must be within the range of distances supported by Bluetooth. You can use the digital crown to enlarge or reduce the image display.
