Gaming, IKEA announces the new line of furniture products

IKEA has been working for years on a line of furniture and products by furniture dedicated to gaming, and this line finally seems ready to be introduced to the market. The Swedish furniture giant announced in a press release that the new range will include more than 30 products, which include furniture, bookcases, desks, chairs, a chest of drawers, a cushion for the gaming chair, support for the gamepad, headphones and keyboard, desk lamps, and even mats and supports for the PC.

This line of gaming products was launched in China from January 29, 2021, while from May 2021 it will be available in Japan and from October 2021 the line will begin global sales. IKEA developed this project in collaboration with Republic of Gamers from ASUS, one of the industry leaders in PC gaming products. The idea of the Swedish giant is confronted with an ever-increasing market demand: with the increase in egames and competitive realities that find large space in streaming and on Twitch, even the furnishings and furniture must somehow adapt to this reality. .

Players, having to endure often very long gaming sessions, can face health problems, and consequently worse performance, if they do not have a chair or desk that supports them adequately. IKEA has stated that its goal is to perfectly adapt to the lifestyle of gamers, embellishing the new designs with long gaming sessions in mind.

IKEA isn’t the first furniture maker to enter the gaming world. Herman Millerleader of office furniture, partnered with Logitech G, a manufacturer of electronics and gaming accessories, to create a small line of items focused on gaming. Indeed, this IKEA and Republic of Gamers partnership appears to be a direct response to the Herman Miller and Logitech line. The IKEA press release, in fact, highlighted how affordable its items and furniture will be, while the Herman Miller brand is all about upscale luxury.

“There are 2.5 billion players worldwide, a group united by their love for e-sports and being neglected from the point of view of home life”, reads the statement from Ikea; “the gaming is more than just a fun pastime. It is a way to relax and take your mind off the daily hassle and to connect with people everywhere. For some it is even a means of livelihood. With an ever-increasing number of players around the world and a rapidly growing market, entering the world of games was a natural step for IKEA. “

“To contribute to a better everyday life for all gamers, IKEA has partnered with ROG (Republic of Gamers), designing innovative, high-quality hardware and equipment for gamers. ROG has in-depth knowledge of the industry and wants to find new ways to combine the gaming experience inside the home. By combining the best of these two worlds, the collaboration aims at democratize the gaming experiencecreating relevant, functional, beautiful and affordable products and complete play solutions to make it easier for everyone to create the home they want ”.

Furthermore, the press release states that “the needs of billions of players around the world are very different, while the existing offer is rather technical and often perceived as masculine from a design point of view, despite the fact that the 46% of the players are women. We believe there is a lot to be done to democratize the gaming experience; now we take the first step on our gaming journey and we do so by presenting affordable, high-performance products and complete solutions that we hope will reflect people’s personalities and tastes ”.
