Elon Musk and Apple, the background of the dialogue with Tim Cook
According to reporter Tim Higgins, Elon Musk asked Cook to be named Apple CEO. The two, however, deny having ever spoken to each other. The dialogue is told in the journalist’s book, out tomorrow.
The revelation about Elon Musk in a book by Tim Higgins
If we were to draw up a list of the most talked about characters of the last two years, we would surely find again Elon Musk in first place. The latest news comes from the Los Angeles Times, which reviewed a book out tomorrow, August 3. The text bears the signature of Tim Higgins, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, who titled the book Power Play: Tesla, Elon Musk and the bet of the century. The book talks about a phone call that took place between Elon Musk And Tim CookApple’s number one.
The reported anecdote dates back to 2016, when Tesla, which was ready to present the Model 3, was suffering from a market crisis. According to Higgins, Musk would have phoned Tim Cook, proposing to the latter to acquire Tesla on condition of becoming the CEO of Apple. Also according to the book, Cook would have responded negatively to the proposal by hanging up the phone.
The two deny that the fact ever happened
The answers were not long in coming, and came directly from Tesla’s CEO on Twitter. Musk, who revealed in December 2020 that he proposed an acquisition to Apple, denies ever having a conversation with Tim Cook. On that occasion, in fact, Apple simply said it was not interested in a meeting.
Cook & I have never spoken or written to each other ever.
There was a point where I requested to meet with Cook to talk about Apple buying Tesla. There were no conditions of acquisition proposed whatsoever.
He refused to meet. Tesla was worth about 6% of today’s value.

A response to this comment came from the author of the book himself, who claims to have repeatedly contacted Elon Musk to receive comments on the subject before the book was printed. According to Higgins, the information would have arisen from conversations of Musk himself on the subject, reported by third parties.
Musk was given plenty of opportunities to comment on this. He didn’t. This anecdote comes from Musk’s own account of the conversation, according to people who heard the retelling at the time. https://t.co/GRKZRBsaeR

It will be interesting to hear any comments from Tim Cook, who did not comment on the matter. Although the Apple CEO had previously expressed his admiration for Musk, while confirming that he never met him in person.
