Don’t lose WhatsApp messages when moving from Android to iPhone

Don’t lose WhatsApp messages when moving from Android to iPhone

WhatsApp now allows you to move messages without losing them from Android to iPhone if you are going to change your mobile. We show you how to do it.

For a long time, moving from using an Android phone to an iPhone was reasonably easy, with one clear exception: WhatsApp. For some reason, the messaging service made it almost impossible to export the messages and upload them to your new iPhone.

The most frustrating part was that you could create backups in the app itself, but you had no way to transfer them between platforms, which just made you even more frustrated.

Fortunately, all this has recently changed and, for a while now, it is now possible to import your old conversations and attached content to the set up WhatsApp on a new iPhone or Mac.

Here are the steps you need to follow to move your WhatsApp chats and messages from Android to iOS.

How to move your WhatsApp chat history from Android to iPhone

With the new version of WhatsApp, moving messages is a quick and easy job. This is what you should do:

  1. Open the ‘Move to iOS’ app on your Android phone and follow the instructions.
  2. You will be prompted to connect to your iPhone by typing in a code number.
  3. Click ‘Continue’ and follow the prompts until you reach the ‘Transfer data’ screen.
  4. Here you will see WhatsApp. Select this and tap on ‘Start’. This will start accumulating your data. When you are ready, you will see that you have logged out of WhatsApp on your Android phone. Tap ‘Next’ to continue.
  5. Go back to the ‘Switch to iOS’ app. Tap the ‘Continue’ button and all your data should be transferred to the iPhone.
  6. On your iPhone, insert your Android phone’s SIM, if you haven’t already.
  7. Open WhatsApp and log in to your account (making sure to use the same phone number as on your Android phone). When you see the ‘Start’ button appear, tap on it and your data should load onto your new device.
  8. Complete the setup on your iPhone. Once everything is in place, you should see that your WhatsApp messages and groups are all present and correct.
