Best voice assistant? Google Assistant beats Alexa, Cortana and Siri
What is the best voice assistant on smart speaker? The scepter of the “most intelligent” wins it Google Assistant that “finds a home” within Google Home. They come after all of its Amazon opponents Alexa, Cortana, and Siri.
This was established by the annual Loop Ventures test which measured the IQ of the various voice assistants integrated into the smart speakers Google Home, Apple Home Pod, Amazon Echo and Harman Kardon Invoke with Cortana.
Best voice assistant on smart speaker: the test
Loop Ventures asked 800 different questions (the same for each assistant), thus testing their ability to understand the requests and to provide correct answers. All this obviously in English and on specific smart speakers: Google Home, Apple Home Pod, Amazon Echo And Harman Kardon Invoke with Cortana.
For Loop Ventures Google Home with Google Assistant is the undisputed king among the smart speaker with 100% of requests understood and 87.9% of correct answers. Followed by Siri, Alexa and infinite Cortana which only gets 63.4% of correct answers … just over half.
The questions were divided into five different categories (Local, Commerce, Navigation, Information and Commands) and Google Assistant won in all categories except Commands, where Siri was the master.
The most interesting fact among all, however, it is not who is the undisputed winner of this competition but how voice assistants have improved over the course of a year: look how low the percentages of Google Home and Amazon Echo were last year when compared to this year.
This means that the electronics giants are investing heavily to improve the performance of their voice assistants more and more. The same thing cannot be said of Cortana, the bottom of the category. In fact, during 2018 the improvements were minimal. Pity.
Our test: Google Home vs Amazon Echo Plus
We too in our small way have tested Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The two smart speakers do not differ much from each other. Between the two – in our opinion – Google Home which was able to interpret decidedly complex requests, returning a little more humanity than Alexa. But all is not lost. We are only at the beginning.
