Animal Crossing is the most talked about game on Twitter in 2020 (for now)
Animal Crossing is the game by far most discussed on Twitter. The social media has released its statistics on the “over a billion Tweets sent in the first half of 2020” on the subject of video games. The Nintendo Switch game is the clear winner for amount of chirpswith the PlayStation 5 unveiling event reaching the highest daily peak.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons dominates the collective consciousness of Twitter
@animalcrossing has been mentioned more than any other video game account. Fate / Grand Order wins the place of honor, with Final Fantasy which is placed on the third step of the podium. Not even battle royale like Fortnite (finished fifth) e Apex Legends (eighth) I can keep up with the pace at which Animal Crossing has dominated players’ Twitter this first half of the year.
Animal Crossing also arrives on the podium in Topics, the “topics” section that Twitter has introduced in the last year. But it’s preceded only by “esports” and “gaming”, two topics so broad that they could not fail to win. Tom Nook’s game surpasses even giants like call of Dutyas well as all consoles: PlayStation, Xbox and even the one on which it is played, Nintendo.
Our country is confirmed not very accustomed to Twitter tweets, not even appearing in the top 10 of the nations that most tweet about video games. Japan dominates this ranking, followed by the United States and South Korea.
As for the conferences, in a very special year for these events, PS5’s “The Future of Gaming” wins bigbeating Niconico, Xbox, PAX and Ubisoft Forward. The PlayStation event has raised conversations by 82% about video games on Twitter. Now it remains to be seen if it’s a sign of success for the console’s release or if they were all sharing memes about the PS5 shape.
The other question we can’t yet answer is whether the Animal Crossing’s domain on Twitter will remain also for the next six months. With the release of Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, the arrival of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077 and Halo Infinite seems unlikely. But the numbers of tweets about video games are set to grow even more.
