Amazon and Android 12: the e-commerce site at work to solve problems

Amazon and Android 12: the e-commerce site at work to solve problems

Shortly after the launch of Android 12 in October, users began to notice that they are no longer able to use any of the apps in theAmazon Appstore, as promptly reported by the editorial staff of 9to5Google. Reports of the problem appeared on the Amazon forum over a month ago, and it has not yet been fixed, despite the e-commerce site claiming to be aware of the bug.

Amazon is working on compatibility issues with Android 12

“We are aware of the problem and are working to fix it, as it affects app performance for the small number of Amazon Appstore users who have upgraded to Android 12 on their mobile devices,” said the Amazon spokesperson. Troy Edwards. “This issue has no impact on Amazon Fire Tablet or Fire TV devices.”

Among the problems reported by users is the complete absence of all apps in theAmazon Appstore, while others cite receiving update requests for their apps when no update is needed. An Amazon staff member also responded to complaints in the forum, noting that the “technical team is still investigating the problem,” but did not offer an explanation as to what went wrong.

The problem could arise from a lack of compatibility between Amazon’s integrated DRM and Android 12. A user on the Amazon forum, Eduardo S, highlights an alternative solution, pointing to DRM as the root of the problem.

The user explained that it is possible to try to download the APK of an app on another device with an older version of Android, from which it is possible to work on the source code of the app to bring it to work on the new version of the operating system, even if it is evident that this is not a fix to the reach of all.
